Olympic Sports and Medals Analysis

Summary

This project provides an extensive analysis of Olympic Sports and Medals from 1896 to 2014. The primary focus is to determine which countries and athletes have won the most medals throughout the history of the Olympic Games, with a particular emphasis on gold medals. By examining both the Summer and Winter Olympics data, we can uncover trends and patterns in the distribution of medals over time.

The dataset includes detailed information about each medal-winning athlete, including the year, city, sport, discipline, athlete’s name, country, gender, event, and the type of medal won. With over 35,000 medals awarded since 1896, this analysis reveals fascinating insights into the dominance of certain countries and athletes in specific sports.

We explore how the medal counts have evolved, which countries have consistently performed well, and identify standout athletes who have made a significant impact in the Olympics. The analysis also considers socio-economic factors such as population and GDP per capita, providing a deeper understanding of the context behind the medal counts.

This project not only highlights the achievements of top-performing countries and athletes but also offers a comprehensive view of the global landscape of the Olympic Games over more than a century.
